The Havre High wrestlers are traveling to the largest meet in the state this weekend to compete in the CMR Holiday Classic.
Approximately 32 teams from all over Montana in all four classes will attend. Havre won the Class A, B and C divisions last year, but took second behind Billings Skyview in the overall standings.
Six Ponies have wrestled at the Classic before, including K.P. Fisher, who won the meet two years ago, Jeff Hedges, who has placed third in the finals, and Chad Hedges, who has also competed in the finals.
"We've wrestled well there before, so the kids look forward to it," head coach Scott Filius said. "We have nothing to lose. We just need to get out and compete."
Though the Ponies are coming off a successful weekend at the Mining City Duals last weekend in Butte, they know one weekend of success does not make a team good. As Garrett Hanson, Jeff Hedges and Chad Hedges said at practice Monday, the team still has a lot of areas they need to work on, including better conditioning.
"You've always got to improve," Filius said. "We've had a real tough week in terms of conditioning this week, so hopefully that shows this weekend.
"It's always a good meet to have right before the break. You see the best competition in the state."
The Ponies leave for Great Falls Friday morning. The Havre JV team will also be in Great Falls Saturday for a JV tournament at Great Falls High. Havre's next home meet is Tuesday against Lewistown and Thursday against Glasgow.
