STANLEY GOMKE, Obituary

GREAT FALLS Stanley "Stan" Gomke, 69, Great Falls, an Army veteran and mechanic, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at his home of cancer.

Visitation was Sunday and his funeral was this morning at Hillcrest Lawn Chapel. Entombment with full military honors was to be at Hillcrest Mausoleum.

Stan was born April 2, 1932, in Atris, S.D., to Ed and Bertha Gomke and raised in Kremlin. He attended high school in Kremlin and mechanics' college. He married Barbara Karjala in 1956 in Geyser.

He was drafted into the Army in October 1951 and served in Korea as a vehicle driver and maintained military vehicles until Nov. 17, 1953. He was a feedlot manager for several years before going to work at Hall-Perry Machinery in 1972 as a mechanic and later as a service manager. He retired in 1995.

He was an active member of Westside VFW and enjoyed mechanical and engine work, old cars, traveling, dancing and visiting with family and friends. He also enjoyed helping with the harvest on his sister's farm at Kremlin.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Gomke in 1996; son, Wayne Gomke in October 2001; parents, Ed and Bertha Gomke, three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his daughters, Sharon (Ron) Meek and Donna (John) Harding of Great Falls; partner, Eleanor Schulte of Great Falls; sisters, Lorraine Trulson and Shirley Thole of Havre, and Patsy Marleau of Lake Havasau, Ariz.; brothers, Clarence "Blackie" Gomke of Great Falls, Fred Gomke of Anchorage, Alaska, Robert Gomke of Kremlin and Mike Gomke of Havre; mother-in-law, Dorothy Taskila of Great Falls; daughter-in-law, Marsha Gomke of Rogers; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
