HERB DOLL, Obituary

MALTA Herb E. Doll, 73, an Army veteran and retired florist and greenhouse owner, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, at a Malta hospital of heart failure.

A Vigil service will be Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 7 PM, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Malta. Funeral Mass of the Resurrec-tion will be 11 AM, Thursday,

Dec. 20, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with burial in the Malta Cemetery.

Herb was born April 4, 1928, in Perham, Minn., to Edward and Mary (Klinnert) Doll. He attended schools in Wadena and St. Johns College in Collegeville, Minn. He was a country school teacher in both Minnesota and Montana.

Herb loved gardening and flowers. He operated Herb's Floral and Greenhouse in Havre from 1952 until 1960 and Totem Gardens in North Pole, Alaska, where he retired in the 1980s. He worked for a short time on the Alaska pipeline and did a lot of trapping and hunting during his 12-year stay.

Herb was an avid hunter until Parkinson's Disease made that impossible. He enjoyed playing cards and raising birds. He struggled valiantly with his afflictions, but now his struggle is over and he is home for Christmas.

He is survived by his brothers, Willie and Cheri Doll of Malta, Adrian and Dorothy Doll, Don and Monica Doll of Havre, Tom and Lozetta Doll of Lyle, Wash., Vern and Muriel Doll of La Cross, Wis., sisters, Marie and Chuck Griffith of Stayton, Ore., Pauline and John Craig of Harshaw, Wis., Joan and Leo Tapia, Rose and Romey Weigscheid of Kingman, Ariz., and many nephews and nieces.
