Monty Holden, 65, former owner of the Third Avenue Barber Shop and the PTL Barber Shop, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at a hospital in Mesa, Ariz.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service is 1 p.m. Saturday at the Fifth Avenue Christian Church with Brother Russ Barrows officiating. A fellowship

reception will follow the memorial service at Fifth Avenue Christian Church.

Monty was born June 8, 1936, to Rill and Marie (Overcast) Holden at Mountain View, Mo. He was educated in Mountain View and graduated from Mountain View High School. He was very active in the theater, basketball, and track.

Holden graduated from barber school in Seattle in 1956 and went to work for the Third Avenue Barber Shop, which Monty later purchased. In 1975, Monty sold the Shop and moved to Sunburst to study the ministry. Monty returned to Havre and opened the PTL Barber Shop on First Street, where he and his daughter, Lisa Cottrell, worked until Monty's illness in 1995.

Monty was spending his winter in Apache Junction, Ariz., at the time of his death.

He was very active in the Men's Fast Pitch League over the years he played for several teams including Valley Furniture and the Havre Merchants. Fast Pitch was his first love. He lead several teams to the state championships, and always enjoyed the company of his teammates.

He loved to bowl, auctioneer, dance, shoot pool, play cards, and umpire ball games. But most of all, he loved to spread the word of God.

Monty served in the U.S. Air Force and was a barber for the Havre Radar Base for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rill and Marie (Overcast) Holden, brother, Ransom Holden, son-in-law, Vern Cottrell.

Survivors include his sons, Shawn (Christine) Holden of Havre, Jason (Angela) Holden of Great Falls; daughter, Lisa Cottrell of Billings; brother, Carl Holden of Billings; sister, Dorene Golie of Lynwood, Wash.; six grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
