Carol Reifschneider, co-chairman for the local Relay For Life committee, said that the committee is hoping to find six or seven more members.
Relay For Life is an overnight event sponsored by the American Cancer Society. It is community-based and designed to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones, and raise money for the fight against cancer.
On Monday, Jan. 8, the Relay For Life committee will hold a kick-off meeting in Room 113 of the Hagener Science Center at the Montana State University-Northern campus.
The Relay For Life marathon is held annually in July. Last year, the Havre area had eight teams running in the event, according to Reifschneider.
Participants must form a team of 8-12 people and register with the local coordinator. They are then asked to recruit sponsors for the relay. Sponsors can include local businesses, organizations or individuals. The event mobilizes communities and raises awareness about cancer and the American Cancer Society.
Reifschneider said that Monday's meeting will be basically organizational a chance for the committee to fill some positions and make some decisions.
