JOHN WADE PETTY
John Wade Petty, 41, died Jan. 11, 2001 due to an accident at his home in Billings. Cremation has taken place.
A memorial for immediate family will be held in Havre at a later date.
Petty was born in Havre to John Duane and Shirley Garrett Petty on Oct. 1, 1959. He was schooled in Havre and Sheppard, and received his GED diploma while serving in the U.S. Army for nine years, including a tour in Germany. He returned to Billings and delivered pizzas and drove taxi for a few years. During this time he contracted a bipolar disorder which required heavy medication, resulting in decreased capacity in his life.
Petty worked for COR Enterprises of Billings for many years until his death. He made a Cursillo in April of 1988 and said it was the best experience of his life. He said his questions about God and the afterlife had been answered and there was nothing to worry about.
Petty was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Mock; grandparents, John B. and Norma (Bower) Petty and Earl and Minnie (Stanberry) Garrett; aunts, Darlene (Petty) Leman and Patty Garrett; uncles, Charles Petty and Jake Brazer; and a cousin, Cleave Garrett.
Survivors include his father, John D. and stepmother, Pauline (Darner) Petty of Shephard; step-grandmothers, Kathleen Petty and Jane Darner of Havre; brothers, Mike Petty of Shephard, Wilfred Fitzpatrick Jr. and Robert Montalbetti both of Havre; sisters, Lana McKelvey of Havre, Avis Herringer of Ore., and Susan Herman; aunts, Bonnie (Petty) Brazer of Havre and Linda (Garrett) Donaldson of Texas; uncles, Leroy Petty of Billings, Alan Petty of Sidney, James Petty of Glendive, Merrill Garrett of Arizona, Dwayne Garrett of Texas, Roger Garrett of Washington; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
