Allen Hutchison

RENO, Nev.  Allen Robert "Hutch" Hutchison, 74, died at his home on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001. Cremation has taken place.

A private family memorial service was held on Monday, Jan. 8, at the First Congregational Church in Reno.

Hutchison was born to William and Linda Hutchison in Whitefish on Oct. 16, 1926. He attended Havre High School, and graduated from Montana State University in 1950 with a degree in physical education.

He served on the U.S.S. Yorktown in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946.

Hutchison married Martha Lee Pope on Sept. 2, 1948. He played football for Montana State for four years, and was voted into the Montana State University Hall of Fame for the 1946 football team.

Hutchison coached at Manhattan High School, then coached football and basketball at Lewistown for three years. He moved to Fresno, Calif., in 1955, where he coached at Clovis High School before opening his own auto painting business.

Hutchison moved to Hayward, Calif., in 1957. He operated many car washes, quick lubes, gas stations and detailing centers over the years, and assisted many in the design and development of new locations in the car wash industry.

Hutchison moved to Reno in 1997.

He was active in many organizations, including the Hayward Planning Commission, the Hayward Board of Adjustments Commission, the Hayward Chamber of Commerce, was president of the Hayward Lions Club, was a member of the California Car Wash Association, the International Car Wash Association Board of Directors, Ducks Unlimited, SCORE in Reno, was a counselor at the University of Nevada and was a member of the MSU Booster Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson.

Hutchison is survived by his wife, Martha of Reno; daughter, Debbe Hutchison-Robison of Oakdale, Calif., , sons Kirk of Pleasanton, Calif., Craig of Vancouver and Nelson of San Ramon, Calif.; sisters Ann Allen of Columbia Falls and Jean Coffee of San Francisco; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
