Lights grapplers win regional title

JAMESTOWN, N.D. Led by six champions and four more

athletes placing second, the Montana State

University-Northern wrestling team secured the team title at

the Great Plains Regional wrestling tournament Sunday.

Northern finished the tournament with 132 points, well

outdistancing second-place University of Mary, which

finished with 99.5 points. Dickinson State was third with 47

points, Huron was fourth with 27, and Jamestown was fifth

with 5.5.

Abel Valdez (125), Caleb Schaeffer (133), Jason Fratzke

(141), Bobby Mantle (157), Emmett Willson (174) and Turk

Lords (197) each won their respective weight classes.

Brent Riggin (149), Neil Samoy (157), Kyle Fisher (165) and

Tyson Thivierge (187) each placed second, and Dane Jacobsen

(Hwt) placed third.

"I think we're capable of a lot better performance, but it

was good to have 10 guys in the finals and six champions,"

Northern coach David Ray said.
