Montana State University-Northern has announced the identities of the members of the search committee searching for a replacement for fired coach Tim Walker.
The committee is composed of athletics department staff and administrators, university faculty, Lights basketball players, university professional staff and a member of the Havre community.
Chairing the committee is Dr. Ted Spatkowski, Director of HPER and Athletics, and search members include faculty athletics representative Dr. Carol Reifschneider, wrestling coach David Ray, women's basketball coack Kevin Emerick, professional staff member Terry Lilletvedt, local entrepreneur Murray Barkus, and Lights basketball players K.C. Moultrie and Josh Larson.
The committee is responsible for identifying potential candidates for the position, checking references and inviting selected applicants to the Northern campus for formal interviews.
After the interviews the committee will submit a recommendation to Chancellor Alex Capdeville, who will make the final decision.
The committee met on March 20 and will meet again Friday to begin identifying the several applicants who be invited as early as next week to Northern.
The committee has set a tentative goal for hiring a new coach by the end of the first week of April.
Walker was told his contract would not be renewed following a game against Carroll College on Feb. 22. The school allowed the fourth-year coach to remain at his post until after the season concluded.
The Lights ended the regular season winning five of their final seven games before falling to Lewis-Clark State in the first round of the conference tournament.
