MELVIN JOHNSON
Melvin T. Johnson, 85, died Friday, March 23, 2001 at his home in Havre of natural causes.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in Havre, with Pastor Paulson officiating. Burial will follow Highland Cemetery. A reception will be held at the church after burial.
Johnson was born March 26, 1915 in Strum, Wis. to Harold and Thora (Haugum) Johnson. He attended Brick Riverview School in Strum.
He married Gilma Finstad on June 16, 1945 in Iowa. They owned and operated a dairy farm in Strum, then sold it and bought a farm in Gildford. They moved to Havre in 1954.
Johnson was both a farmer and carpenter. He worked for Fuglevand Construction Co. and Shulund Construction in Havre while farming at Gildford. He retired in 1979.
Johnson was a member of the Sons of Norway, a former ski jumping competitor and an avid baseball fan. He also enjoyed bowling and playing softball.
He was preceded in death by his parents of Strum, Wis., and a sister, Borghild Scalzo of Spooner, Wis.
Survivors include his wife, Gilma Johnson of Havre; daughter, Mary Gregory of Auburn, Wash.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Arrangements and services are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
