The search committee for the new head coach of the Montana State University-Northern men's basketball team has announced the first two candidates who will be interviewed for the empty post.
Scott Hatler, currently an assistant coach and Coordinator of Marketing and Development at MSU-Billings, will be interviewed Tuesday, April 3. He graduated from MSU-Billings with a master's degree in athletics administration.
Hatler, a Great Falls native, was a four-year starter and captain for MSU-Bozeman and finished his career as the school's assist leader.
Brian Harrell, an assistant coach for the past five years at MSU-Bozeman, has been largely responsible for recruiting, floor coaching and scouting opponents for the Bobcats.
In addition to those responsibilities, Harrell is the supervisor for the Bobcat Summer Camps, the largest basketball camp in Montana.
Originally from Shelbyville, Ind., Harrell has a master's degree in sports administration from the University of Northern Colorado.
Both candidates will be interviewed utilizing a daylong format, and the public will have an opportunity to address each candidate.
The open forum for Hatler will be April 3 at 5 p.m. in Donaldson Commons, and the forum for Harrell will be April 5 at 5 p.m. in the Fireside Room in the Student Union Building.
The two applicants are looking to fill the void left by former coach Tim Walker, who was informed he would not be welcome back by the university to coach the team shortly before this past season ended.
