WALTER GERTSON
Walter "Wally" Don Gertson, 71, died Monday, March 26, 2001 at a Billings health care center of natural causes.
Memorial services are 1 p.m. Monday at the Holland and Bonine Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Ron Paulson officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Reception to follow at the Eagles Club in Havre.
Gertson was born Oct. 12 1929 to Fred and Violet (Daulton) Gertson in Havre. He attended schools in Havre and received his GED while in the Marine Corps.
Gertson joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1946 and served until 1948. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1953. He received two Purple Hearts while serving in Korea in the Army.
He married Elrene Schable in Havre on June 26, 1970.
Gertson worked as a carpenter at Northern Montana College until his retirement in 1995. He was active in and retired from the Montana National Guard.
The Gertsons moved to Billings in February 2001 to be closer to their daughter.
He was an avid fly fisherman and member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
Gertson was preceded in death by his father, Fred Gertson.
Survivors include his wife, Elrene Gertson of Billings; mother, Violet Gertson of Havre; daughters, Janice Gameon of Billings, Marlene Hanning of Cupertino, Calif. and Alana Blankenship of Chinook; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to a donor's choice.
Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
