A heads up call by a Havre pawn shop employee stopped the sale of stolen merchandise Monday evening, according to a police report issued this morning.
The clerk called police from the shop in the 700 block of West First Street shortly before 6 p.m. Monday to say that some customers were trying to sell tools that were still in the wrappers.
While the pawn shop clerk remained on the phone, officers called a couple of stores to check on the suspects. Employees at each said they remembered the suspects being in the store, but that they hadn't bought anything.
Officers arrived at the pawn shop within 10 minutes of the call and arrested four people.
A man, 26, and two women, 18 and 27, were cited with theft by shoplifting and a 21-year-old woman was cited with obstructing peace officers. The four were taken to the police department, processed and released.
Officers noted in their report that there was no proof of liability insurance in the vehicle and that none of the four was a licensed driver. They refused to release the vehicle to the suspects and insisted that it remained parked.
