WILLIAM MCCORMICK
MITCHELL, S.D. William Keith McCormick, 49, died at a Mitchell, S.D. hospital Sunday, April 1, 2001.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bemidji, Minn., with burial at the Moose Creek Cemetery in Shevlin, Minn. with military rites.
McCormick was born Nov. 14, 1951 at the family farm in Livingston, Tenn. to Carver and B. Magdalene Walker McCormick. The family moved to New Castle, Ind. in 1952. He grew up and went to school in New Castle and graduated from Chrysler High School in 1970.
He attended Ball State University for one year, then entered the U.S. Air Force. He served for eight years. Upon his discharge, he worked for Lockheed Missiles in Space in Aurora, Colo. form 1979-81.
McCormick married Margie F. McCollum on Aug. 2, 1973 at the SAC Memorial Chapel in Omaha, Neb.
In 1983, he graduated from MidAmerica College of Funeral Service in Clarksville, Ind. with a degree in mortuary administration. He was employed in the funeral service in Indiana, South Dakota and Montana.
In 1996, he went to work for Mitchell Housing Authority, Meadowlawn Plaza as maintenance superintendent.
McCormick was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was a Sunday school teacher and served on the board of trustees and board of elders. He was a member of the American Legion, DAV and Pi Sigma Eta, a national morticians' fraternity.
While in Montana, he served as district secretary and then district governor for the Montana Funeral Directors Association.
McCormick was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James; infant sister.
Survivors include his wife, Margie McCormick of Mitchell; daughter, Marnee Sherman of Glencoe, Minn.; son, Benjamin McCormick of Mitchell, S.D.; brothers, Frank and Robert McCormick of New Castle and Jerry McCormick of Lisbon, Ind.; sister, Sue of Palmyra, Ind.; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
