SHELBY Nick Obie cruised to a four-stroke victory in individual play to lead the Havre boys golf team to the team title at the Shelby golf tournament Friday.
Obie's 72 was four strokes better than Cut Bank's Brian Larson, who finished at 76.
As a whole, Havre finished with 313 strokes. Shelby was second at 340, Cut Bank and Conrad tied for third at 342, and Fort Benton was fifth at 347.
Trent Normandy finished tied for third with a score of 78, and Kevin Harada were fifth and sixth for the Ponies with scores of 79 and 80, respectively.
"I was pleased with the boys, but some of them need more consistency," Havre coach Keith Evenson said. "They had trouble putting because Shelby had huge greens, and the kids weren't accustomed to them. But this is normal for the beginning of the year."
The Havre girls placed third overall in the girls event with 424 total strokes. Shelby won the team title with a combined score of 384, followed by Fort Benton at 407.
Jessica Sande led the Ponies with a score of 95, just four strokes behind winner Jennifer Orcutt of Conrad.
Julie Wagner finished tied for sixth with a score of 99.
