Havre's Garrett Hanson went 3-for-4, and the Northstars warmed up their bats early in a 12-7 victory over the Great Falls Stallions A team in an American Legion baseball game Sunday at Legion Field.
The Havre Comets were unable to untrack the Stallions in their game, losing 17-4 as Great Falls led 7-0 after the top of the first inning and was never challenged.
Northstars players C.J. Reichelt and Tyler Vandermars each went 2-for-2, and Dusty Heath was 2-for-3 for the Havre. Reichelt and Heath each doubled once.
Havre, which finished with 12 hits, took a 6-0 lead after the first inning and chased Great Falls starter Chase Shanks with four more runs in the second.
Great Falls scored three runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth to cut the deficit to 12-7, but Havre reliever Kyle Sheppard held the Stallions scoreless over the final two innings.
Doug Ireland earned his first win of the season for Havre.
In the Comets' game, Daine Solomon finished 3-for-3 and Chris Chandler added two hits for Havre.
Great Falls roughed up Comets pitching, collecting 17 hits against Chandler and Tyler Thompson. Havre also hurt itself defensively with three errors.
The Northstars host the Great Falls Electrics in a nine-inning affair Friday, April 27, at 7 p.m.
The Northstars and Comets will then hit the road for games in Eureka against Kootenai Valley on April 28 and 29.
