New Dawn Christian counseling now open

By Tim Leeds

Patty DeRosa, M.Ed., LCPC, opened New Dawn Counseling April 3 in the Witt Realty building, 202 Third Street in Havre.

DeRosa, who received her masters of education in counseling and development from Montana State University-Northern in 1995, said that her business is a Christian counseling service, using the ideas of Christian morality and such resources as prayer or reading the Bible where appropriate.

DeRosa said using Christian resources does not have to be a part of the therapy for her clients, but that she feels that the Lord is an important part of the counseling process.

She also leans towards family system counseling, DeRosa said, using Adlerian counseling with an emphasis on issues like the family system and a person's place in the family. She counsels individuals, groups, elderly and adolescents.

DeRosa said she is an eclectic counselor, using a variety of different methods, including Christianity. She said she specializes in grief and loss, depression, anxiety, life changes, parenting, relationships, divorce recovery and pre- and post-adoption issues.

DeRosa had worked as a family resource specialist at the Havre Department of Public Health and Human Services since she received her master's. She has also been a trained Stephen Leader with Stephen Ministries since 1995.

DeRosa said she decided to start her service because she saw a real need for professional Christian counseling in Havre. Her family, friends and former clients all encouraged her to start New Dawn, she said.
