HDN hosts old businesses gathering at library Saturday

By Alan Sorensen

An informal gathering of Havre "business genealogists" is scheduled for 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Havre-Hill County Library meeting room.

The purpose of the meeting is to gather the names and addresses of the different businesses that have operated in Havre through the years.

Head Librarian Bonnie Williamson said that a video of early May Day and Band Festival parades may be available for viewing. Also, some of those expected to attend, including Frank Derosa and Cameron Worstell, said they planned to bring along pictures of old businesses.

The afternoon's "business tree" mapping will be informal and people are welcome to come and go as they please. People can work alone or in teams.

Williamson said that those in attendance will be allowed to scan old copies of the Polk Directory from the library's reference section.

The Havre Daily News will provide official reporter notebooks and pencils. The coffee pot will be on and cookies will be provided, too.

Just exactly what will be done with the gathered information is uncertain.
