Havre High School students and their families and community members gathered in the high school auditorium Thursday night for the presentation of the 2001 academic awards.
The presentations began at 7 p.m. with the meeting of the school's chapter of the National Honor Society to initiate its new members. Faculty and staff then awarded Academic Awards for Excellence, Chemistry Merit Awards, President's Education Awards and academic letters and pins.
The current members of the National Honor Society, Nikki Baltrusch, Ryan Bennet, Erika Blatter, Jason Bowker, Lindsey Brandt, David Chambers, Andrea DiSalvo, Jennifer Forsyth, Erin Lynch, LaShae Michels, Lindsay Schmiodt, Stacey Siebrasse and Samantha Velk conducted the ceremony to induct the new members.
The new initiates from the Class of 2001 were Breyon Briese, Jillian Brough, Tyler Croft, Brent Finneman, Nikki Grant, Chrystal Kerr, Adam Landgraf, Jayson Nissen, Jennifer Peterson, Jennifer Shakal, Carly Toldness and Nicholas Toth.
The initiates from the Class of 2002 were Dallas Crossley, Andrew Edwards, Cherish Fehr, Michael Frey, Brittany Knickerbocker, Tyrell Lundman, Jayla McPherson, Heidi Nielson, Nicholas Obie, Amy Ranes, Samuel Soyer, Carly Swenson and Troy Toner.
Faculty presented the awards for academic excellence. Jennifer Peterson and Jillian Brough won in art, Breyon Briese in business education, David Chambers and Jayson Nissen in English, Shawn McLain in Spanish, Jennifer Shakal in French, Lindsey Brandt and Matt Sasaki in health enhancement, Jennifer Shakal in math, Ryan Bennett in band, Lindsey Brandt and Stacey Siebrasse in choir, Lindsey Brandt in science, Jayson Nissen and Dallas Crossley in social studies, Joel Baxter in special education, Angela Biem and Andrea Stridham in the S.U.N.S. alternative high school, and Chris Hansen and Travis Veld in technology education.
Students recieving the Chemistry Merit Award, for placing in the top 30 percent of students taking a national chemistry exam, were Nikki Baltrusch, Ryan Bennett, Jason Bowker, Lindsey Brandt, Tyler Croft, Jayson Nissen and Chris Springer.
The President's Education Award Program winners, for seniors with a 3.5 or higher GPA who have scored at least 85 percent on standardized reading and math tests, were Nikki Baltrusch, Ryan Bennett, Jason Bowker, Lindsey Brandt, Breyon Briese, Jillian Brough, David Chambers, Judith Cox, Tyler Croft, Andrea Disalvo, Brent Finneman, Jennifer Forsyth, Lacey Gibbons, Nikki Grant, Chrystal Kerr, Adam Landgraf, Erin Lynch, Eric McElmurry, Jayson Nissen, Lindsay Schmidt, Jennifer Shakal, Nicholas Toth, Cassie Van Slyke and Samantha Velk.
Students hwo have maintained a 3.8 GPA for three consecutive semesters are awarded an academic letter, and once they have a letter they receive an academic pin for maintaining a 3.8 GPA for two consecutive semesters.
Winners of pins from the Class of 2001 were Nikki Baltrusch, Lindsey Brandt, David Chambers, Amanda Dugdale, Brent Finneman, Chrystal Kerr, Jennifer Shakal and Samantha Velk.
Pin winners form the Class of 2002 were Dallas Crossley, Andrew Edwards, Michael Frey, Tyrell Lundman, Jayla McPherson, Heidi Nielson, Nick Obie and Amy Ranes.
Academic letter winners from the Class of 2003 were Angela Adams, Jenna Baltrusch, Levi Briese, Kristina Burstock, Kristine Colling, Carrie Flatau, Ryan Hamilton, Justin Kegel, Jenna McPherson, Jodi Moffitt, Ashley Pattison, Casey Peterson, Crystal Pyrak, Alicia Rundquist, Philip Schatzka, Brooke Schwan, Sara Suek, Clarissa The Boy, Matthew Welch, Gina Williams and Aimee Velk.
