If it had been against any other team, Havre Northstars pitcher David Knight would have thrown a no-hitter last night at Legion Field.
But because he was facing the Havre Comets in an exhibition game of sorts, the game ran a couple innings longer and Knight lost his shot at a no-no.
Knight gave up just one hit in seven innings of work to lead the Northstars to a 15-2 win.
The Northstars held a 12-0 lead after six innings, and under normal regulation rules, the game would have been over via the 10-run mercy rule.
Northstars coach Mickey Williams and Comets coach Bob Evans were using the game to get some players time on the field and let the game extend to eight innings.
With two outs in the seventh, Chris Chandler ripped a two-out, two-run triple to the wall to end Knight's bid for the no-hitter.
Kyle Sheppard had three triples, and Kevin Jurenka drove in five runs for the Northstars, who led 3-0 after the first inning and 9-0 by the end of the third.
The Northstars improved to 3-0 against the Comets this season.
