State looms for United

Hi-Line United, a local soccer team consisting of high school-aged players, is competing in the state tournament this weekend in Butte.

United opens play Saturday against Livingston at 8 a.m. and later competes against Powell at noon.

"Our first game is against a very tough Livingston team that we tied in Dillon, so we will have to be on our toes from the very first whistle," United coach Jeanne Dalton said.

The tournament includes 11 teams that will battle in pool play all day Saturday to determine seeding and pairings for games Sunday.

"We are really looking forward to this tournament," Dalton said. "We didn't finish well last year, and we are determined to do our best to place."

United will play without co-captain Anna Wass and Caleb Hutton because both players will be taking part in high school graduations.

Wass is graduating from Chinook, and Hutton's sister is a home school graduate.

"We are definitely disappointed Anna and Caleb won't be with us," Dalton said. "They both have worked very hard and have contributed much to the success of our team."

United hosted a pair of soccer games last Saturday on the football practice field west of Havre High, defeating Big Timber 3-0 and Billings 3-1.

"Billings is a very good, aggressive team, and we had seen them in action in Lewistown," Dalton said. "I was really pleased with the win and the way our kids played tough against this team."
