Sen. Sam Kitzenberg, R. Glasgow, will be in Havre on Monday, June 4, rallying support for the resurrection of a Highway 2 Association that will focus attention on efforts to create a four-lane highway for the Hi-Line.
A public meeting has been planned for 12:30 p.m. at 15 West. A no-host lunch will be provided at that time.
SB-3, authorizing the creation of a four-lane highway along the route of U.S. Highway 2, was passed by the last session of the Montana Legislature and has been signed into law by the governor. The Montana Department of Transportation is required by the new law to work to acquire federal funding for the project and to begin preliminary planning.
"Let's resurrect the Highway 2 Association and put pressure on our Congressional delegation to build a four-lane highway for U.S. 2," Kitzenberg said in announcing the meeting.
Kitzenberg wants to see the Association raise a fund of $10,000 to help promote the project through signs and advertising and to help with travel and printing.
Kitzenberg will be discussing the goals of the Association project and asking for help in acquiring key locations for signs, sponsors, and donations to get the Association off of the ground.
A rally sometime this summer is also one of the things Kitzenberg hopes to organize. He is suggesting the rally be held July 4, in Glasgow at the Fairground. A dinner and dance will be held and fireworks will cap off the meeting.
Phone calls and e-mails to Sen. Max Baucus, Sen. Conrad Burns, and Rep. Denny Rehberg are also being called for by Kitzenberg.
