CHINOOK Verta Powell Corrigan, 83, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at a Havre hospital of liver cancer.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Lloyd Sweet Auditorium with burial following in the Kuper Memorial Cemetery.
Corrigan was born June 12, 1917 on Cow Creek 60 miles south of Chinook to Jake and Lucille Powell.
She married Carson "Bud" Corrigan on March 10, 1941 in Chester. They ranched in the Bears Paw Mountains south of Lloyd until they sold the ranch in 1965 and bought a small farm in the Milk River Valley. They sold that in 1977 and retired just two miles northwest of Chinook.
Corrigan enjoyed cooking, gardening and yard work. She played the violin in her youth and enjoyed listening to her family play music.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one son, two sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include her daughters, Sheri Miller of Chinook and Loretta Cummings of McMinnville, Ore.; stepson, Carson Corrigan of Havre; sisters, Alta Kivinen of Great Falls, Joan Dilger of Corvallis, Avis Groseclose of Apache Junction, Ariz., Margie Liedle of Townsend, Luella Brownlee of Cut Bank and Lola Gilbert of Vaughn; brothers, Ted and William Powell, both of Chinook; seven grandsons and three great-grandchildren.
