Comets split pair at Medicine Hat

MEDICINE HAT, Alberta Ian Spencer pitched a complete game and was 2-for-4 with two RBI in the nightcap to help the Havre Comets earn a split with Medicine Hat in an American Legion doubleheader Thursday.

Medicine Hat won the opener 6-5.

In the second game, Bobby Bergren had an RBI and joined Brian Childree with two hits. Tyler Thompson also had a two-run single for the Comets.

Havre led 5-3 after five innings and put the game away with five more runs in the sixth.

After the first three batters of the inning loaded the bases, two runs scored on an error on Cory Junck's at-bat. Two batters after Daine Solomon drove in another run with a sacrifice fly, Bergren had an RBI double for a 10-3 lead.

Spencer gave up eight hits and three earned runs in seven innings. He struck out five.

In the first game, Havre held a 5-3 lead after scoring two runs in the sixth on back-to-back RBI singles by Garrett Drake and Steve Heberly.

Medicine Hat, however, scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning and another in the seventh to rally back for the win.

Junck pitched 5 1/3 innings and was credited with seven strikeouts, two walks, seven hits and four earned runs.

Havre reliever Adam Jensen picked up the loss with one earned run in 1 2/3 innings of work.
