The Havre Daily News hired Casey Scalf as its photographer early this month, and Scalf said she is enjoying her new job.
Scalf is originally from Tennessee, and spent 17 years in Virginia Beach, Va., before moving to Havre. She graduated from Virginia Wesleyan College with a bachelor of arts degree in communications, with emphasis in journalism. In addition, she took numerous photography courses at a community college. Scalf said photography has always been a big part of her life.
"It's the only (profession) I've ever been interested in," she said.
Scalf said in her spare time she really likes manipulating photos to create something that is pleasing to the eye.
Scalf did freelance photography and worked for small magazines in the Virginia Beach area before moving to Havre. She said this job is perfectly suited to her, because she gets to do nothing but take pictures.
"I love it," she said.
Scalf said Montana offers a lot of great photo opportunities, and she enjoys the people she's met so far. As for Havre, "it's an interesting town," Scalf said.
