The H. Earl Clack Museum will begin sponsoring a summer lecture series starting June 26 in the lobby of the Heritage Center.
Five local speakers are scheduled to present topics ranging from ancient cities in Egypt and Israel to military service on submarines.
The June 26 lecture will be presented by Elinor Clack, who will speak on the subject of Mrs. Kellogg, the wife of an Army major who helped establish Fort Assinniboine. The Kelloggs were given the first house built on Officers' Row.
Shirley Isabel, Hill County superintendent of schools, will on July 10 talk about the romance of country schools. Isabel will present pictures to augment her talk as she describes how homesteading required a framework of schools to teach the many children.
Toni Hagener, former museum curator, legislator, and county commissioner, will present a lecture on ancient cities on July 17. Hagener just returned from her second trip to Egypt and Israel.
Big Sandy resident Bill Sheets, a spray pilot who is also retired from the U.S. Navy, will relate his experiences as a member of the submarine "silent" service on July 24.
The final speaker in the series will be archeologist John Brumley, who will speak on July 31. Brumley discovered Wahkpa Chu'gn Buffalo Jump and Kill Site when he was 13 years of age and returned in later years to become the supervising archeologist and curator at the site. Wahkpa Chu'gn is one of the most extensively excavated buffalo jumps in the region.
There is no charge for the lectures and the public is invited to attend.
