The Havre Art Association is combining artwork with garden decor for the third annual Art and Garden Show.
Local artists' work will be displayed in the gardens on the tour, which runs from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Homeowners are opening up five gardens for the display and tours, culminating in a drawing for the winner's choice of a selection of artwork.
Ginny Streeper, vice president of the association, said the tour was such a success last year that the association is printing more tickets this year. They had trouble getting enough tickets to the people wanting to take the tour last year.
The gardens on the tour are often a pleasant surprise since elaborate stonework, statuary and gardening are often concealed in the back yard. People taking the tour might not have any idea what surprises of gardening and art they will find until they have gone to the back of the homes.
The five gardens in the tour belong to Don Vaupel, west of Havre beyond the Beaver Creek Golf Course; Dr. Frank Miller, 504 11th St.; Karen and Larry Olson, 1303 N. Fourth St.; Dr. Frank and Gail Searl, 76 Saddle Butte Drive; and Mike and Debbie Ritz, 1611 Juniper Drive.
The drawing will be held in the gazebo in Karen and Larry Olson's garden at 6:30 p.m. The art available to choose from for the drawing is on display at Marguerite's and Cavelier's in Havre. The winner need not be present for the drawing.
Refreshments will be served in the Olson garden during the tour.
The money raised by the tour will be used for local art projects sponsored by the Art Association. Past projects have included donations to the art gallery at the Heritage Center, including installing new lighting in the gallery, and holding art workshops for youths in the area.
Tickets are $6 and are available at The High Plains Gallery or from Art Association members. For more information, call 265-2005 or 265-2436.
