Bing N Bobs wins A League championship

Bing N Bob's, ranked second entering the Havre Youth Baseball A League tournament, showcased a fighting spirit that carried it to a championship with a 6-4 win over Edward D. Jones in the title game.

Bing N Bob's finished its season 13-5, and Edward D. Jones, which was the top seed in the tournament, ended its season 13-5-1.

Bing N Bob's, which won a coin flip prior to the tournament to earn the No. 2 seed, defeated Edward D. Jones 15-12 in the tournament semifinals to secure a spot in the championship game.

Edward D. Jones came back to oust Pepsi with a 7-6 win in the consolation final to earn a rematch against Bing N Bob's in the championship.

Had Edward D. Jones earned a victory in the rematch against Bing N Bob's, the two teams would have faced in a final title game to determine the league champion.

Bing N Bob's took care of business, however, to secure the crown in Coach Kevin Johnson's first season with the team.

"(Bing N Bob's) players made some pretty amazing plays," Johnson said. "Every game could have gone the other way.

"The kids were a little nervous (before the title game), but they came ready to play."

Bing N Bob's opened the tournament with a 7-3 win over the Havre Lions, then defeated Staudacher Insurance 7-6 to reach the semifinals.

Pepsi, which ended the season 11-8, finished the tournament third, and Staudacher Insurance, which ended its year 11-7, placed fourth overall.
