LORING David R. Hofer, 88, died Monday, July 2, 2001 in his home at Loring Colony of natural causes.

Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Loring Colony with burial in the Loring Colony Cemetery.

Hofer was born March 14, 1913 at Meno, S.D. to Joshua and Elizebeth (Wipf) Hofer. He immigrated to Stirling, Alberta, Canada in 1930.

He married the former Rebecca Hofer in 1934. They moved to Lewistown in 1947. From there, they moved to Harlem in 1960 and then to Loring in 1982. He resided there until his passing.

Hofer was colony boss and manager for 35 years. He loved farming and enjoyed his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, George Hofer; sons-in-law, Joe R., Joe E. and Sam A.; brothers, Darius Hofer and Joshua Hofer, both of Lewistown; brothers-in-law, John S. Hofer of Walsh, Alberta, Mike S. Hofer, the Rev. George A. Hofer and Jake E. Hofer, all of Stirling, Alberta, John R. Stahl of Lewistown; sisters, Annie Hofer and Susie Hofer, both of Stirling, Alberta; sister-in-law, Annie Hofer of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Hofer of Loring; sons, David Hofer, the Rev. Josh Hofer, Mike Hofer and Kurt Hofer, all of Loring; daughters, Rebecca Stahl of Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, Elizabeth Hofer of Stanford, Annie Hofer of Donalda, Canada, Susie Hofer and Mary Hofer both of Regina, Saskatchewan; brother, the Rev. Joseph Hofer of Harlem; sisters, Katie Stahl of Gildford, Elizabeth Hofer and Mary Hofer, both of Stirling, Rebecca Stahl of Lewistown; daughter-in-law, Susie Hofer of Loring; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.
