The Havre Eagles have made an offer to allow the auxiliary back into the Eagles Club kitchen and dining room.
The auxiliary, banned from the facilities last month in a dispute over back rent, said it wants two weeks to think about the proposal from the male members of the lodge.
Tom Farnham of Havre Eagles Aerie 166 said today that he and Jerry Pyette from Chinook, the state Eagles' senior trustee, mediated the a meeting of the aerie and the auxiliary Wednesday. He said the men made a proposal and the women said they wanted until July 25 to consider it.
Havre auxiliary president Eleanor Mejie said today the impasse could be resolved soon but the auxiliary needs to go over what was said at the meeting "with a fine-tooth comb."
"There's really been nothing settled as yet. We're not saying anything until we have our own meeting to discuss our options," she said.
Havre auxiliary secretary Claudia Viall received a letter from the Havre Eagles aerie on June 25 stating that the men were taking over the kitchen and dining area at the club and all activities in those areas. It also stated the auxiliary had four months to pay $2,400 in back rent.
State Eagles Auxiliary President Loretta Jansciski from Great Falls attended Wednesday's meeting. Jansciski said today the meeting was successful in straightening out the situation. She said she thought things would work out for the Havre Eagles and they can "get back to people helping people."
She declined further comment, saying, "It's an internal situation and should be worked out internally without the public being involved."
Pyette was not available for comment.
