CHINOOK Joyce Evelyn Friede Magda, 75, died Sunday, July 15, 2001 of cancer at a care center in Havre.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in the American Lutheran Church. Burial
will follow in Kuper Memorial Cemetery.
Magda was born June 6, 1926 to Rudolph and Rennie (Young) Friede in at their home in Zurich. She spent her childhood in Zurich in the Valley and Harlem area. She was educated at North Fork School through the sixth grade.
Rheumatic fever ended her schooling and limited some things in her life. She mastered typing and bookkeeping and worked in the office at the Sugar Beet Factory in Chinook. In 1941, she moved to Washington state and worked at Pacific Core and Foundry and met Gerald Magda who was on leave from the Navy. They kept in touch with letters. He returned to Washington upon his discharge and they were married in Renton on Aug. 10, 1946.
They moved to Chinook in 1947 and he went to work in the gas field south of Chinook. They moved to the farm in 1948 and made their home there for 43 years.
Magda was secretary for North Fork School Board.
She enjoyed dancing and various crafts, including tinting pictures, crocheting, embroidery and sewing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, father, sister and a brother-in-law.
Survivors include her daughters, Karen Magda of Chinook and Lisa Russo of Pennsylvania; two grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook is in charge of the arrangements.
