Havre wallops Spurs for 33 runs; Boyce drives in six, wins first game

The Havre Northstars pounded out 33 runs in two games against the Vauxhall Spurs to cruise to an American Legion sweep Wednesday night at Legion Field.
The Northstars pelted out 28 hits, including nine doubles and five triples against the Spurs.
Havre won the first game 17-2 and the second game 16-0.
Danny Wirtzberger led off the first game for Havre with a double to left center field. After a Jordan Anderson walk and an infield single by Jared Boyce loaded the bases, Kyle Sheppard drove in Wirtzberger with another infield basehit.
David Knight got the outburst started for the Northstars, crushing a three-run double to center field. Knight would score two batters later on an RBI single by Dusty Heath.
C.J. Reichelt kept the inning going with Havre's third double of the day, and after Havre had batted through its lineup, Wirtzberger got his second double to drive in the Northstars' seventh run.
Boyce, in the midst of a perfect game through three innings, appreciated the run support, which he said has been rare of late.
"The sticks on this team finally woke up," Boyce said. "We have been scraping through the last couple of weeks."
After adding two runs in the second, the Northstars' bats continued to dominate as Havre scored five more runs in the bottom of the third.
Wirtzberger hit his third double of the opener and scored on a triple by Anderson. Boyce then followed with a sacrifice fly to drive in Anderson and make the score 11-0.
Garrett Hanson got his first hit of the night three batters later with an RBI double and scored on a single by Heath. Heath scored on Reichelt's second double, making the score 14-0.
"It was nice to score runs for once," Knight said. "We were hitting line drives, which we haven't been doing for a while."
Boyce held the Spurs to only three hits and struck out six.
Wirtzberger, Hanson and Heath each had three hits for the Northstars, and Sheppard, Knight and Reichelt added two hits apiece.
The Northstars picked up in the second game where they left off, scoring seven runs in the first three innings of the game.
The pitching continued to be strong for Havre as well, as Doug Ireland tossed his first shutout of the season. Ireland allowed only four hits and struck out five.
"I just wish that it would have been against a team like Lethbridge," Ireland said.
Havre scored nine runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the game away.
Anderson had a perfect night for Havre with a combined 4-for-4 effort with two RBI and six runs scored in the doubleheader.
In the nightcap, Boyce was 2-for-4 with five RBI, and Knight added two hits and two runs for the Northstars.
"We hit the ball well," Northstars coach Mickey Williams said. "I was happy with how we hit the ball. We hadn't scored a lot of runs like that for a while."
