Pair of locals earns bowling championships at State Games

BILLINGS Bowling well above their averages through three games, Kristi Hollingshead and Lindsey Gerky both of Havre each won their respective divisions at the Big Sky State Games last weekend.

Hollingshead, who came into the tournament with a 135 average, finished the event 122 pins above that mark to claim the gold medal in the girls' 12-18 age group.

Gerky entered the tournament with a 112 average and cleared that mark by 51 pins to win the girls' 11-under age group.

Her brother, Katon, placed second in the boys' 12-18 division. He came into the tournament with a 112 average and topped that mark by 100 pins.

Havre's Mustang Strikers, consisting of Hollingshead, Tiana Waite, Scott Geda and Matt Jensen, claimed the bronze medal in the team division with a total of 2,565 pins.
