CHESTER Jacqueline Yvonne "Jacquie" Johnson, 74, died died Friday, July 20, 2001 at a Spokane, Wash. hospital from kidney problems.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chester. Burial of ashes will be at the Trinity Church Cemetery north of Lothair.
Johnson was born Sept. 7, 1926 to Hobert "Jack" Newton and Nellie Burns at Laurel. She received her early education at Laurel, Lewistown, Great Falls and graduated from Shelby High School in 1945.
In the years that followed, she worked at a telephone operator in Shelby and Boston, Mass.
She married L.T. Dixon on May 20, 1947. They divorced in 1951.
She married Paul G. Johnson in Shelby on Nov. 1, 1953. They made their home on the Johnson farm 18 miles north of Lothair until 1961, when they moved to a farm 12 miles north of Cut Bank. They moved into Cut Bank in 1974 and operated a Grain-Dri business until their retirement in 1984. They moved to Spokane and spent their retirement there.
Johnson was active in the Lutheran church and served as Sunday school superintendent at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cut Bank. She also was a member of the Cut Bank Home Demonstration Club and was active in the Democratic Women's Organization.
Johnson enjoyed reading, especially mysteries and histories of Ireland and England. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy and her favorite soap opera on TV, playing cards, and cooking.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two aunts.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Johnson of Spokane; daughters, Yvonne Hunnewell of Chester and Paula Johnson of Spokane; sons, Craig Johnson of Spokane and Leif Johnson of Vista, Calif.; brother-in-law, Owen Johnson of Florida; sisters-in-law, Rose Marie Gustafson of Arizona, Louise Runyon of Idaho, and Patsy Nelson of Washington; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces.
Memorials may be made to the Trinity Church Cemetery Care Fund or Kidney Center Endowment Fund at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane.
Arrangements are by Rockman Funeral Chapel of Chester.
