The Hi-Line Relay for Life Saturday night and Sunday morning raised more than $32,000 to support cancer education, research and support activities for people with cancer and their families.
The relay was held at Havre High School, where members of 16 teams walked around the candle-lit track all night long. Teams collected pledges and sold luminaria in memory of cancer victims and in honor of cancer survivors. Members walked in shifts throughout the night.
Wendy McKarney of the American Cancer Society reported she had tabulated $32,189.58 by Sunday afternoon in donations.
A crew fought the wind to light all of the candles, in bags dampened by a light rain earlier. Once lit, they burned the entire night, lighting the track for the walkers. The Knights of Columbus provided a breakfast to walkers Sunday morning.
The event started at 7 p.m., with a lap by cancer suvivors around the track.
People and groups from Hill, Blaine and Liberty counties participated in the relay, walking, collecting pledges and selling luminaries, and providing support and planning.
