ELLEN RITNER, Obituary

Ellen Rose "Nellie" Ritner, 98, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at a Havre care center of natural causes.

Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in the chapel at Northern Montana Care Center with Father Grosch officiating. Cremation has taken place. Her ashes will be sent to New York for interment at the All Faiths Cemetery at Middle Village.

Ritner was born Feb. 12, 1903, to William and Ellen Pritchard in New York City. She graduated from high school in the Bronx and went to work at the Bronx County Courthouse. She worked there until retirement.

She married George Ritner in 1941 at Coney Island in Brooklyn. He died in 1982. They lived in New York City most of their married life and wintered in Florida during their later years.

She continued to live on Coney Island until moving to Pompano Beach, Fla., in 1991 to be with a niece and then to Havre to live with her niece, Dorothy Flint. She moved into the Eagles Manor in 1994, and then to the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd and then the Northern Montana Care center.

She enjoyed traveling, reading, television, her family, socializing with friends, playing bingo and homemaking activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; brothers, Thomas, Joseph, John and William Pritchard; sisters, Mary Hoffman and Elizabeth Stellar; four infant siblings.

Ritner is survived by her nieces, Dorothy Flint of Havre and Ellen McEvoy of Pompano Beach, Fla., some grandnieces and grandnephews and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

Memorials may be made to the Northern Montana Care Center Chapel Building Fund.
