HOWARD SANDERSON, Obituary

SODA SPRINGS, Idaho Howard Frost Sanderson, 82, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at Soda Springs of complications related to prostate cancer.

Cremation has taken place and family memorial services are being planned.

Sanderson was born June 12, 1919, in Dore, N.D., to Carriel Frost Sanderson

and Jennie (Lockhart) Sander-son. He spent his youth on the family farm.

He met Jeanette Cordelia Hebert in Sidney at a roller skating rink in 1934. They were married on Nov. 28, 1940.

Expecting to be inducted into the military for World War II, he sold the family homestead in February 1945 and bought some land in Fairview. The war ended in May 1945 and he was never called.

Sanderson was a heavy equipment operator for the Great Northern Railway and then worked delivering gas and oil products around rural Havre. He later became owner-manager of Petrolane Propane Service, worked for Klabunde Mobile Home Sales and then started and ran his own Mobile Home Service.

Upon retirement, he and his wife traveled with friends in their motor homes, following the nice weather from Canada to Nevada. They particularly enjoyed old fiddlers' concerts.

Sanderson was an avid hunter and fisherman and served as president of the Hill County Wildlife Association in Havre. He launched his last arrow at a buck at the age of 76.

He and his wife moved to Soda Springs, Idaho, in 1991. He worked to make the town motor home friendly and to preserve historical events and markers in Soda Springs. He also enjoyed gardening and story telling. Approximately 20 of his short stories were published in Rocky Mountain Rider.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret Cotter and Carol Hootman.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Sanderson of Soda Springs; son, Terry Sanderson, of Soda Springs; three granddaughters; two great-granddaughters.
