Kathrine Rose "Katie" Clancey, 85, Havre, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, at her home of natural causes.
Cremation has taken place. A prayer vigil and rosary will be 7 p.m. today at the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Jude Catholic Church. Burial of cremated remains will follow at the Highland Cemetery.
Clancey was born March 11, 1916, in Fairview, W.V., to Robert Michael and Ola Maude (Taylor) Rynd. She was raised in Mannington, W.V., and Charleston, W.V. She graduated from Charleston Catholic High School and attended St. Francis School of Nursing, where she obtained her degree as a registered nurse.
She worked as nurse until joining the Navy Nurse Corps. She attained the rank of lieutenant and served in several locations during World War II, including Naval hospitals in Hollandia, New Guinea and Manus in the Admiralty Islands, as well as several stateside Naval hospitals.
She met M.F. Clancey on a blind date while serving in the Navy. They married at Sacred heart Catholic Church in Charleston, W.V., on Jan. 4, 1947. They made their home in Havre since then.
Clancey was active in the Sacred Heart Hospital Auxiliary and St. Jude's Altar Society, served as a volunteer at St. Jude School, was a Cub Scout leader, took blood pressures at local blood drawings, and volunteered at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, John William Clancey; grandson, Matt Mangold; three sisters, and a brother.
Survivors include her husband, M.F. Clancey of Havre; children, Michael Clancey of Grove City, Pa., Sheila Colbrese of Redmond, Wash., Mary Mangold of Plevna, Martha O'Farrell of Bellevue, Idaho, Chris Clancey of Hamilton, and Patrick Clancey of Ennis; sisters, Lila Rynd of Charleston, W.V., and Rebecca Frank of Harwood, Md.; several nieces and nephews.
