Bickford shatters two golf records

Two year-old golf records were shattered by Montana State University-Northern standout Toni Bickford at the Carroll College Invitational Sept. 17-18.

Bickford improved her previous 18-hole score of 84 to 81, and 54-hole score from 257 to 250, which secured fifth place for the Skylight golfer.

Teammate Theresa Newman knocked 16 strokes off her previous weekend 18-hole score as MSU-N went for a fourth place team finish.

"(Newman) played more like she's capable of doing," said Skylight coach Chris Handley. "She's playing more to her game right now."

Carroll College Tournament results were delayed while officials considered information concerning Westminster golfer Rachel Miranda's bent putter, which was rebent into place and used to finish the round. Miranda was disqualified for using altered equipment, leaving Westminster with three players, thus dropping them out of team scoring since a minimum of four players is necessary.

Team results: 1. Rocky Mountain College, 983. 2. University of Montana-Western, 1070. 3. Lewis and Clark, 1089. 4. MSU-N, 1105. 5. Carroll College, 1200.

Individual results: 1. Rachel Brumfield (UM-W), 238. 2. Ashley Griffith (RMC), 240. 3. Sarah Hamilton (RMC), 242. 4. Caroline Bradley (L&C), 244. 5. (tie) Toni Bickford (MSU-N)/Leslie Hodge (L&C), 250. 6. A. Poll (RMC), 252. 7. Kelly Hancock (RMC), 253. 8. Laura Jefferson (L&C), 255. 9. Amy Bassett (Westminster), 257. 10. Jennifer Orcutt (MCC), 259.

Other MSU-N finishers: Theresa Newman, 268. Kaycee Link, 269. Ristina Johnson, 320. Jessica Sande, 336.

Next golf action for the Skylights will be today and Tuesday at the Anaconda Old Works.
