The Havre High School Key Club is participating in two charity fund-raisers and is asking people in the community to help its efforts.
Kiwanis International started the 911 Fund for all branches of Kiwanis and Key Clubs to help raise money for different organizations helping victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Havre High Key Club members have distributed containers at various businesses in Havre, and the club members said they would appreciate the community's help in raising money by placing donations in the containers.
The club also is participating in a Key Club Montana District effort to collect pop can tabs to be donated to Ronald McDonald House. The tabs can be dropped off in containers in businesses around town or at any of the Havre Public Schools. Key Club members throughout Montana are participating in the program.
Ronald McDonald House, started in Philadelphia 20 years ago, provides housing for families whose children are receiving treatment for life-threatening illnesses in hospitals. There are more than 160 Ronald McDonald houses, which house more than 2,500 families a night. There are Ronald McDonald houses in 11 countries.
It costs the houses $65 to provide housing for one family each night, but the family is charged $10. Donations, such as the aluminum tabs to recycle, are one way Ronald McDonald House keeps the charge at $10.
