GILBERT BELCOURT, Obituary

ROCKY BOY Gilbert M. Belcourt, 62, retired construction worker, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at a Great Falls hospital of cancer.

Wake began Wednesday at Rocky Boy Catholic Church. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Rocky Boy Catholic Church with Sister Mary Margaret officiating.

Burial is to follow at the Russette Family Cemetery.

Belcourt was born April 4, 1939, to Gilbert and Irene (Swan) Belcourt in Lewistown. He was educated in Lewistown and in Rocky Boy.

On Dec. 9, 1972, he married Joyce Courchane in Great Falls. In 1977 and 1978, Gilbert worked at the Bunker Hill Company in Kellogg, Idaho. In 1978, the couple moved to Rocky Boy, where Gilbert worked construction for The Rocky Boy Housing Project. Gilbert then worked for Sunshine construction until he retired in 1988.

Gilbert painted pastels and Native American paintings and portraits.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Belcourt Sr., and a sister, son, stepson and stepdaughter.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Belcourt of Great Falls; daughters, Rae Lynn Belcourt of Great Falls and Karma and Verona Belcourt of Burley, Idaho; mother, Irene Belcourt of Box Elder; sisters, Marie Saltzman of Ronan, Vera Lack of Polson, Roberta Belcourt of Bozeman, Rena Parisian, Carla Morsette and Shirley Meyers of Rocky Boy; brothers, Martin Belcourt of Arlee, Richard Belcourt and Harley Belcourt of Missoula, John Belcourt of Townsend, George Belcourt and Marvin "Skinny" Belcourt of Rocky Boy; numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holland and Bonine Funeral home.
