Blue Sky High School hosted the final Northern Division Speech and Drama tournament of 2001 on Saturday at the school complex, with students from 19 north-central Montana schools involved.
More than 200 students competed in 15 events, and nearly 125 students and adults helped with the judging, the lunch and the general work of the tournament. Tournament directors were Laurel Walker and Ann Warhank.
Browning High School took top Class A honors in both the speech and the drama divisions, while Fergus County High School placed second in both areas. Fort Benton/Geraldine won the Class B speech trophy, Malta placed second, Choteau took third, and Chinook won fourth. Class C winners were Blue Sky in first, Brady/Dutton/Power with second, Denton at third, and K-G at fourth.
Simms High School won the top trophy in drama in Class B, followed by Chinook in second, Fort Benton/Geraldine at third, and Cut Bank with fourth. Denton High School was the top Class C drama winner. Brady/Dutton/Power placed second, and Joplin-Inverness took third.
Local winners in impromptu speaking were Matthew Bitz, Big Sandy, first; Shannon Brady, Malta, second; William Willcut, Malta, eighth.
