A Community Appreciation Ball will be held at the VFW Club on Jan. 20 with no-host cocktails beginning at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m.
The event will give the community a chance to recognize those citizens who help out around our town and who may not receive the recognition they deserve. According to Cyndi Murphy, who helps organize the event, the ball is a chance for people to get to know what is going on in their community.
The event began as a military ball, but the name has since been changed to encourage all community members to attend.
"Everyone is welcome," Murphy said.
The ball allows individuals to nominate people for the Community Appreciation Award. Nominees consist of those who help out the Havre community "behind the scenes" and therefore may not get the recognition that they deserve.
"There are lots of people in this town who don't get any appreciation," Murphy said.
To nominate someone for the Community Appreciation Award, which will be presented at the ball, contact the VFW Club, 265-9965; Ron Wolford, 265-3213; or Louann LaSalle, 265-9626. The nomination deadline for the Community Appreciation Award is Jan 15.
The Havre Jaycees, who are helping coordinate the event this year, will be presenting their awards at this time as well.
The cost for the ball, which includes dinner, is $15 per person or $25 per couple. Musical entertainment will be provided by "Branding Iron" (formerly The Rocky Mountain Renegades). Dress is semi-formal.
"It gives us ladies a chance to dress up," Murphy said.
The guest speaker for the event will be Debbie Vandeberg, of the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce. Champagne and non-alcoholic beverages will be available and chicken cordon bleu will be served for dinner.
To reserve your seat, contact the VFW at 265-9965.
The Community Appreciation Ball is sponsored by the United Veterans Council and the Havre Jaycees. All community members, clubs, and organizations are invited to attend.
