GREAT FALLS  Bernice Elaine Harris, 82, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, of natural causes.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. this morning at the Community Presbyterian Church in Fairview with the Rev. Bob Meehan officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery.

Harris was born to Henry and Mary (Howard) Dore on Sept. 4, 1918, at the family home west of Fairview. She attended school in Fairview and graduated from Fairview High School.

Harris enrolled in teachers college in Great Falls and Havre, and taught in rural schools and Central Elementary until she retired in 1983.

She married Edward Harris in 1941. Harris continued to live in Sidney after his death in 1990, until she moved to Havre in 1997 to be close to her daughter.

Harris was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church, the Rebekah Lodge, the Laugh-a;Lot Birthday Club, American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 114 and the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority in Sidney. She enjoyed visiting, traveling, playing cards, dancing and especially enjoyed her students and their families.

Harris was preceded in death by her husband; a son, David; parents; sisters Lucille Hastay, Sadie Johnson, Pearl Pedersen, Mable Brockway, Helen Lassey, and brother, Art Dore.

She is survived by her daughter, Elaine Harris Lynde of Havre; grandsons Jerry Lynde of Missoula and Kip Harris of Great Falls, granddaughter Kim Ferda of Great Falls; sisters-in-law Marion Nelson of Savage and Dorothy McMillan of Hamilton; brother-in-law Donald Harris of Hamilton; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are by Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.
