CANstruction against hunger on the rise again

By Crystal Thompson

The 2001 CANstruction fight against hunger is set to take

place on March 24th at the Holiday Village Shopping Center.

Families, clubs and organizations are encouraged to

participate by building a structure out of non-perishable

food items. Teams must turn in a registration form to the

Havre Food Bank by March 16.

Each sculpture space is 8' by 10'. Sculptures must be made

primarily from canned or dry goods. You may use clear tape,

plastic wrap, cardboard, rubber bands and props. Contestants

may not use glue or anything that could damage or

contaminate the products. Teams are encouraged to use

special effects and features to make the sculptures unique

and fun.

Each team is to determine the amount of food needed based

on the size of the design. Labels must not be removed from

canned foods. The cans may be covered with colored paper to

create a desired look.

Also, consider the color your team wants in the structure

before purchasing the cans, as the color of the can's label

can add a powerful effect without the use of paper.

Each team should assign a team captain who will be the the

group's contact person. Captains should be able to attend a

team captain's meeting on March 20th at noon. Sculptures

must be constructed between 9:00 and 3:00 p.m. on March 24.

All food used for the CANstruction project will be donated

to the Havre Food Bank to be used locally to help feed the

hungry.

Structures will remain on display through Saturday March

31. Teams will be required to retrieve any props and

materials that they wish to keep by March 31. Awards will be

presented
