District 6C v-ball
CHESTER Michele VanDyke powered down 11 kills and added two blocks to lead Chester to its 14th consecutive District 6C tournament championship with a 15-3, 15-8, 15-4 sweep over Big Sandy in the title match last weekend.
Katy Engstrom added seven kills, three aces and two digs, Jamie Graham had 12 assists and seven digs, and Maci Tempel added six assists and five digs for the Coyotes, who finished with 11 aces compared to Big Sandy's one.
For Big Sandy, Eryn Darlington had two kills, three blocks and five digs, Shana Davis and Celeste Darlington each added two kills and a block, and Darice Grass finished with a team-high six digs.
CHESTER 3, SUNBURST 0 (championship semifinal) Carlane Jensen led the Coyotes' 15-1, 15-7, 15-2 rout with 11 kills, nine digs, three aces and two blocks.
VanDyke also had 11 kills and she added three blocks, two aces and two digs for Chester. Graham and Tempel combined for 25 assists and 16 digs, Engstrom recorded seven kills, and Chasi Buffington had five kills and five digs.
Carly Kleinert and Sonya Iverson had seven and five kills, respectively, for Sunburst.
BIG SANDY 3, SUNBURST 2 (loser finished third) Celeste Darlington recorded eight kills and a match-high 14 blocks to help the Pioneers hang on for a thrilling 15-13, 15-5, 8-15, 8-15, 16-14 victory.
Eryn Darlington had seven kills and six blocks, Darice Grass had seven kills and 11 digs, and Haley Grubb added 22 assists and eight digs for Big Sandy, which finished with 14 aces.
Kleinert notched an incredible 31 kills and 12 blocks to lead Sunburst. Desiree Overcast added 10 kills, three blocks and eight digs, and Brooke Olson and Iverson combined for 18 assists.
BIG SANDY 3, BLUE SKY 1 (loser finished fourth) Eryn Darlington's 12 kills and three blocks paced the Pioneers' 15-5, 13-15, 15-13, 15-11 win over Blue Sky.
Davis had 10 kills and four digs, Celeste Darlington notched eight kills and six blocks, and Grubb had 35 assists for Big Sandy.
Jessica Patrick had six kills and five blocks, Heather Wendland had seven kills and three aces for the Eagles.
