Walleyes to hold annual banquet

By Robert Lucke

On Saturday, St. Patrick's Day, area Walleye Club members are having their annual banquet at the Vets Club in Havre.

There will be a happy hour from 5:30-7 p.m. with early bird drawings every fifteen minutes. The banquet is at 7 p.m. with a menu of walleye (of course), baked potatoes, baked beans and a secret salad.

Prices are $35 each, which in addition to the banquet includes a yearly membership to Walleye Unlimited, and a subscription to Fish Tales Magazine.

Supporting this banquet is a great way to improve fishing all over north central Montana, according to Don Groven, Havre resident on the State Walleye board of directors.

"We do lots of projects right around here with banquet money," stated Groven. "We build boat ramps, and extend boat ramps at Fresno, have put lighting in so boats can be launched at night, and just do a lot of projects to help fishing locally."

Groven had high praise for area merchants.

"The support in this area is just tremendous. There are lots of prizes that have been donated by Havre people and people up and down the Hi-Line. There is even a 14-foot boat and motor we will be giving away on Saturday night along with several fishing trips."

Tickets are on sale at Stromberg's Sinclair, Bing n' Bobs, Blackie's Tavern in Fresno and in Big Sandy at the Mountaineer and Ezzie Oil.

There are only a few tickets available so Groven suggested buying one soon.
