DALE LUMSDEN
LAKESIDE Dale "Red" Lumsden, 76, died at his home in Lakeside Wednesday, March 28, 2001, of natural causes.
Mass of
Christian burial will be 3 p.m. Monday at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Somers, with Father Richard Sodja as celebrant. A service also will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Jude
Catholic Church in Havre, with Father Robert Grosch as celebrant.
Lumsden was born July 2, 1924 in Havre to Leonard and Eva Bell (Caughran) Lumsden. He grew up in Havre and graduated from Havre High School, where he played football and basketball and was on the state championship team.
Lumsden joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in World War II in the China Burma India Theatre.
He met Joyce Afdahl in 1947 and there were married in Havre in 1948. He had a 44-year career working for the Great Northern and Burlington Northern railroads and Amtrak. He retired in 1984. The Lumsdens moved to Lakeside in 1991.
Lumsden was a member of the Elks, Eagles, BNSF Veterans Association and St. Ann's Catholic Church in Somers.
He enjoyed all things to do with railroads, walking and square dancing, spending time with his family and teasing his grandchildren, and helping his in-laws with harvest.
Lumsden was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Francis and Doug.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Lumsden of Lakeside; daughters, Sandy Greytak and Bernie Anderson of Havre; sister, Harriette Stieler of Kalispell, and five grandchildren.

Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Johnson Mortuary and Crematory.
