ROCHESTER, Minn. Alvin Eugene "Al" Rentschler, 60, Rochester, Minn., died Sunday, April 1, 2001 at a Rochester hospital of heart related complications.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Ranfranz Funeral Home in Rochester. Funeral services will be noon Friday at the Rochester Covenant Church, with the Rev. Gary Downing officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester.

Rentschler was born Oct. 25, 1940 in Havre to Alvin Joseph and Pauline Rentschler. He was raised in Havre and graduated from Havre High School. He attended and graduated from Montana State College in Bozeman.

Rentschler worked as a teacher, insurance salesman and mechanical engineer. He married Marilyn Bostrom on Dec. 7, 1974 in Rochester. They moved to Rochester in 1977. He was employed as an operations and maintenance engineer at Rochester Methodist Hospital. She is a licensed practical nurse.

Rentschler was a member of Rochester Covenant Church and was involved in various church activities. He also as a member of the Sons of Norway, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Friends, Who's Who in the U.S.A., and American Diabetes Association.

He enjoyed storytelling, collecting coins, gardening, watching the weather and bird watching.

Rentschler was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Rentschler of Rochester; daughters, Elizabeth Rentschler of Pasadena, Calif. and Alison Rentschler of Rochester; son, Richard Rentschler of Waite Park, Minn.; sisters, Patricia Redekopp of Billings and Doris Kent of Rochester; one granddaughter.
