The 2001 CANstruction fight against hunger raised nearly 1,200 pounds of food for the North Havre Community Services Food Bank.
The CANstruction fund-raiser took place on March 24 at the Holiday Village Shopping Center. Participants created various structures out of non-perishable food items, which were on display at the mall and were later donated to the Food Bank. The structures were judged on various criteria.
Awards were given in the following categories:
Ton-o-Tin (most food used) - The Lions Club;
Gorgeous Graphics (best use of color/creativity) - Sunrise 4-H Club;
Critics Choice (favorite all-around) - MSU Northern Sweetgrass Society.
Food Bank Manager Cyndi Murphy said that the Food Bank gives out between 4,000 and 6,000 pounds of food every month. "We appreciate everyones participation and hope (CANstruction) will continue to get bigger and better every year," Murphy said. She added that Curves for Women donated 525 pounds of food to the Food Bank following a recent promotion.
